Pickles Lea Yoga is once again bringing you a Yoga festival and health fair. Yoga will be taking over the Elks Theater and Performing Arts Center, July 20th from 8 AM until 4 PM! Mark your calendars and save the date!
This will be the third Yoga festival fundraiser Pickles Lea has created. The first was in 2021 and raised over $3000 for the Alzheimer’s Association Longest Day. The 2nd in 2022 benefited Adult Care Services raising over $2500 for the Susan J. Rheem Adult Day Center and the Margaret T. Morris Assisted Living Center.
This year Pickles Lea is happy to announce that all proceeds will go to Pickles Lea Yoga. Pickles Lea Yoga is the only 501(c)3 yoga company in Northern Arizona. The mission of Pickles Yoga is to make yoga assessable to all humans no matter gender, physique, sexual orientation or socioeconomic status. She does this by offering donation based community Yoga. FREE if people NEED it to be! Pickles Lea loves the Quad City area and is always giving back to local community.
The theme of this year’s yoga festival and health fair is Don’t Give Up! Inspired by the Michael Franti song Brighter Day. It goes like this:
“Don't give up when your heart is weary
Don't give up when your eyes are teary
Don't give up when your voice is trembling
When your life needs mendin'
Don't give up when the hurt is near you
Don't give up when the world seems to be broken
I'm still hopin' with my heart open,
For a brighter day!”
July is national Minority Mental Health Month. Pickles Lea is a trauma informed Yoga teacher, who is passionate about providing Yoga to help heal truma. The Don’t Give Up Yoga festival will be aimed at those who need it the most! No one will be turned away.
We are transforming the Elks Theater into an “Enchanted Forest”! Think butterflies, mushrooms, twinkle ✨ lights and maybe fairies! The third floor, crystal ballroom at the Elks Theater is going to be a beautiful space to experience three yoga classes. There will also be breakout workshops in the second floor dance studios. All offerings will be trauma informed and lead by local Yoga teachers and practitioners who are also passionate about helping others to heal. The Health Fair component will have booths with a combination of local companies that assist those in need as well as local artisans who offer everything your heart’s desire. Lunch will include healthy options while you are immersed in Sound Healing.

Bikram Yoga
11 AM to 12:15 PM
This will be a slightly shortened version of the traditional 26&2 Bikram style yoga practice. We do 26 postures, 2 breathing practices and we do everything twice. This style of yoga uses no props and no music. Instead, we intentionally use the body as its own prop which allows us to tap into our innate strength and openness while the rhythm of the breath and heartbeat provide our own unique internal music. This is a silent class performed as an open eye, moving meditation.
From Simona: I am a body worker and yoga teacher with over 17 years of experience. My journey started in 2004 when I discovered my empathic abilities and the fulfilling experience of helping people heal.
I was always curious about health and wellness, and in 2017, I found my way to yoga. Despite facing some challenges in my personal life, I was drawn to a new way of life at a Parahamasa Yogananda based ashram in Northern California. It was there that I started my healing journey and began to access my intuition.
A turning point in my journey came when I met my yoga teacher Angie Hall at a random yoga festival. I was able to release deep-seated energetic and physical blockages, and I was inspired to learn more about Himalayan Kundalini. My training took me to India and helped me to live a more fulfilling life, both for myself and those around me.
As a teacher, I guide people back to themselves using techniques like breathwork, meditation, and various yoga practices. I help individuals manage their anxiety, release stuck energy, and bring balance to their mental and physical health. Teaching Himalayan Kundalini is my way of living a beautiful life, helping others do the same. Namaste, Simona www.simonabidian.com
Workshop
11 AM to 12:15 PM
Himalayan Kundalini Yoga comes from Northern India. It's a blend of Kriya (breath with movement or mantra with movement repetitively for several minutes) along with traditional yoga poses, ecstatic dance, soul gazing, and meditation depending on the class. It's meant to release stagnant energy and move more in to our higher self. Cultivating more prana in to the body. And bringing more space to bring our bodies in to balance.
General Manager | BEND Instructor | 200 E-RYT
I have been studying movement for over 21 years. I began as a dancer performing in multiple professional companies, even owning my own dance company at one time.
I began my yoga experience in 2015 taking a Bikram class. Being completely humbled by the experience I fully immersed myself in the practice.
I was certified as a teacher in 2017 and have taught yoga in many different kinds of studios around the world.
I am honored to be the manager at BEND where I get to share my love of movement with this amazing community.
FLOW & GLOW 1:15 PM to 2:30 PM
Yoga Type: Power Flow, Vinyasa, Peak Pose
Flow & Glow is power vinyasa inspired… with a little added flare. The name comes from the "flow" style vinyasa movements, and the "glow" of a powerful practice.
In this BEND signature class, there’s a loose outline that the instructor will follow when designing the class sequence, but ultimately it's an opportunity for the creativity of the instructor to shine! From both a flow and music perspective, each instance of a Flow & Glow class is different from another. However, thanks to the framework, a few things remain true for each class - it will be integrated, it will move through sun salutations and balancing, it will be power and strength-based, and it will feature lots of vinyasas!
Our clients enjoy this class because it offers something different from BEND's scripted "Mixed" classes. This class flows, so some foundational knowledge of yoga asana and personal modification is beneficial.
Embodied Wellbeing Workshop THIS CLASS IS FULL!!
1:15 PM to 2:30 PM
We believe that Yoga is an effective way to support well-being during times of stress and collective trauma. Join us for this experiential workshop weaving together a brief theoretical introduction with embodied practices such as grounding and TRE (trauma release exercises) that can be taken off the mat and integrated into daily life as a way to support our nervous systems. We will settle deeply together after the TRE practice while we close the session with a juicy yoga nidra (guided rest).
This workshop is being offered by the Yoga Mandala Project team.
The Yoga Mandala Project is a grassroots initiative supporting the well-being of those impacted by war, violence and displacement as well as service providers working in these communities through trauma-informed training and the co-creation of sustainable yoga programs in different localities around the world..
We are a community of trauma-informed yoga teachers and other embodiment facilitators around the globe supporting communities impacted by trauma and violence through stress-relieving embodiment practices. We also share a passion for caring for the carers which we do through wellbeing retreats, seasonal workshops, empowerment training and by fostering a sense
of community. yogamandalaproject.org
